The lowest fees crypto exchange, measured at the tier a new account actually trades in

The lowest fee a crypto exchange advertises and the lowest fee it will charge you are rarely the same number. Fee schedules are tiered on 30-day volume, and the headline belongs to the top tier. This page reads the bottom row of each venue's own published table, the one a new account starts on, and the spread across nine venues is 0.1% to 1.2% a trade.

The index above carries 9 venues and the entry-tier fee each one publishes.

How to find the real floor

  1. Read the entry tier, then the second tier. The entry tier tells you what you pay now; the tier above tells you how fast that improves. Independent Reserve starts at 0.5% and floors at 0.02%; BTC Markets starts at 0.85% and reaches 0.10% above five million.
  2. Separate the headline fee from the split. Swyftx, CoinSpot, BTC Markets and Independent Reserve publish one number; OKX, Bitget, CoinJar, Crypto.com and Gemini publish maker and taker separately. They are not directly comparable without saying which you are reading.
  3. Add the funding charge. A low trading fee behind an expensive deposit rail is not a low cost. Read the deposit table beside the trading table; they are priced independently and only one of them is advertised.
  4. Treat an unreadable fee page as a finding. Five venues here publish no rate as readable text. That is information about how the venue communicates price, not a gap to fill with a number from a review site.

Bitget's spot table opens at 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker with every volume and balance threshold at zero. OKX's Regular user row reads 0.0800% maker and 0.1000% taker. CoinJar Exchange charges 0.10% both sides in its 0 to 100,000 AUD band, inclusive of GST. Crypto.com Exchange Level 1, under 10,000 USD of volume, is 0.250% maker and 0.500% taker.

Gemini ActiveTrader's floor row, volume and balance both at or above zero, is 0.600% maker and 1.200% taker. That last figure is twelve times the first.

Four venues print one rate rather than a split. Swyftx advertises trading fees from 0.1%, tiered up to 0.6%. CoinSpot charges 0.1% on market orders, but 1% on its instant buy, sell and swap route, which is the route most new accounts use by default. Independent Reserve states the trading fee starts at 0.5% and can go as low as 0.02%.

BTC Markets charges 0.85% on AUD and USDT pairs in its first band, falling to 0.10% above five million. Comparing a headline rate against a taker rate without saying so is how fee tables mislead.

A venue can carry a low order-book fee and an expensive way in. CoinSpot's market order is 0.1% while its card deposit is 1.22%; CoinJar's exchange fee is 0.10% while a Visa or Mastercard purchase is 2%; Swyftx publishes AUD card deposits as attracting a fee of up to 2.4%. On a first deposit the funding charge can exceed a year of trading fees.

Read the deposit table beside the trading table, because they are priced independently and only one of them is advertised.

Every figure here is quoted from the venue's own page and re-checked against that page on each run; if a venue restates its schedule the cell is emptied rather than left stale. No blended or effective rate is computed, because a derived number presented as though a venue published it is exactly the thing this index replaces.

Five venues publish nothing readable and are shown with that reason. Trading crypto puts your capital at risk; this page compares prices and gives no advice on whether to trade.

Common questions

What is the lowest entry-tier fee measured here?
OKX's Regular user maker fee at 0.0800%. On the taker side Bitget, OKX, CoinSpot, CoinJar and Swyftx all start at 0.1%.
Is a 0.1% fee good?
It is the median entry taker fee across the nine venues that publish one, so it is the middle of this market rather than the bottom of it.
Why is Gemini so much more expensive?
Its published ActiveTrader floor row is 0.600% maker and 1.200% taker for accounts with no volume and no balance. The rate falls steeply with volume; the entry tier is simply where a new account starts.
How current are these fees?
Each cell carries the date its page was read and a hash of that page's text. Re-running the ingest re-fetches every page and refuses to write a figure whose quote no longer appears.
